Mission:  The mission of the Area Substance & Alcohol Abuse Prevention (ASAAP) is two-fold.

1.  To prevent the abuse of alcohol and other substances through information, education, and the support of the recovery community.

2.  To reduce youth substance use through prevention, education, and social policy.

How United Way Funds are used:  The United Way provides funds for ASAAP's Lending Library, Youth Boards in Adams, Clay, Nuckolls, and Webster counties, and County Coalitions.

 

Lending Library: 

The Lending Library provides current, easily accessible information to individuals and families who are dealing with substance abuse and recovery issues.  Through funding from the United Way, ASAAP was able to update the library in 2010.

Youth Boards in 4 Counties:

The ASAAP Youth Boards give youth an opportunity to be leaders in alcohol and substance abuse prevention.  Local youth know what "works" with their peers so ASAAP concentrates their efforts on more effective youth activities.

County Coalitions:  

Coalitions are comprised of community members (individuals, officials, organizations, and businesses) who want to be instrumental in changing community norms about underage drinking.
