Area Substance and Alcohol Abuse Prevention’s (ASAAP) mission is preventing the abuse of alcohol and other substances through information, education, and the support of the recovery community. Reducing youth substance use through prevention, education, and social policy. As a funded United Way partner, ASAAP’s mission receives program funding to assist the pillar of health in the Clay, Webster, Nuckolls, and Adams counties.
Recently, ASAAP sponsored a “Impaired Driving” simulator for 8th graders at Hastings Middle School. To get the students ready and familiarize them with substances that could impair a driver, ASAAP was asked to come spend a day teaching eighth grade health. ASAAP taught 7 class periods the week before the simulator experience was scheduled which gave students a preview of the harmful substances that could cause you to make poor decisions while driving.
