The YWCA has been a long-time community partner of the United Way of South Central Nebraska. The Zone is one of the funded programs at the YWCA of Adams County. The Zone is a free After School Program providing a safe, fun, drug and alcohol free environment for local middle and high school students.
Students who attend the Zone can take advantage of our free snack and dinner program, homework tutoring, arts and crafts, sports games, classes and lessons, academic enrichment opportunities, and community service learning projects.
Those who attend The Zone attest to its stability and education benefits.
I attended the Zone between 2000 and 2002. The Zone provided a safe, social atmosphere for our age group. My parents were in favor as they worked full-time jobs until 5 pm or later. They knew that this would keep me in a safe environment, out of trouble and allow me to be with my friends. The activities and events at the Zone kept me wanting to come back. As an adult, I realize that this provided opportunities to take ownership, to be included and to gain responsibility.
“I love the Zone because it is relaxing after school and the staff members are really nice.”
